How to Create Vertical Video for Facebook
If you’ve arrived here you have probably been struggling trying to get your portrait orientation videos to show up on social media without the black boxes on the sides. When I search for a “how to” tip I appreciate when the site I land on gets right to the point, so here goes:
Step 1: Shoot your video in portrait mode on a smart phone.
You don’t have to but I’m assuming you already have a video shot in vertical mode and you just want it to fill the screen when someone views it on social media.
Step 2: Download two apps
On iOS device you will need RFV (Rotate & Flip Video) and iMovie.
On Android device you can do the same thing with Googles Photo app and Perfect Video
Step 3: Rotate Video
Open RFV (on iOS), open your video and rotate it 90 degrees and “save” to your camera roll.
Step 4: Open iMovie, create a project and upload your clip. Next, export the video to your camera roll.
Step 5: Open RFV again, open the video you just exported from iMove and rotate it back to vertical and save it to your camera roll for the last time.
Step 6: Upload the video to Facebook or other social media platform.
